Nieva en el norte/ Snows in the North

I did get to see the sun when I first arrived to the North of Spain, but I think it took just a couple of days for the cold weather to arrive. The mountains around here are covered in white snow, very beautiful with contrasting green prairies.

Llegue a ver el sol cuando llegue al norte de España, pero creo que solo pasaron un par de dias para que llegara el frio. Las montañas de alrededor estan cubiertas de nieve blanca, muy bonito con praderas verdes de contraste.


These 3 images were taken today from our window, the views are right in front of my sister's home. It is nice to work here with a window right in front of your desk with all these views. I wish I had something similar in my craft desk, what a source of inspiration!

Estas 3 imagenes fueron tomadas hoy desde nuestra ventana, es justo en frente de la casa de mi hermana. Da gusto trabajar aqui con una ventana justo en frente tuyo con estas vistas. Me encantaria tener algo similar en frente de mi mesa de costura, ¡que fuente de inspiracion!

My first crochet project

I learned how to crochet from my sister in law here in Spain and I am hooked! I am into three things at the same time, and the ideas keep on flowing...

Aprendi como hacer ganchillo de mi cuñada aqui en España ¡y estoy enganchada! Estoy haciendo tres cosas a la vez, y las ideas siguen surgiendo...

The first thing I finished was a hat for my son. Actually it is still missing two ponpons at the ends of the little scarf. He looks like little red hood and you can see his blond curls even blonder because of the contrast. I can see him from all distances in the playground, this red is screeming red....

Lo primero que hice fue un gorrito para mi hijo. De hecho aun le faltan dos ponpons en los extremos de la bufanda. Sè parece a caperucita roja y se pueden ver sus rizos rubitos aun mas rubitos del contraste. Le puedo ver de todas las distancias en el parque, este rojo es rojo chillon...


I recently learned that my dear friend Gisele is leaving us. Well, I knew that was coming, but when you know it is actually happening...well it is very hard to accept. The funny thing is that in the last months we haven't even been with each other because of my frequent trips, but that doesn't matter, I still feel very close to her. She has been there for me for so many happy and very sad moments that a big emptiness is inside of me knowing that she won't be only a few steps away from me. I know that internet will keep us close always but I know for sure that I will be missing her.

Hace poco me entere de que mi querida amiga Gisele nos deja. Bueno, eso yo ya lo sabia, pero cuando sabes que de hecho va a ocurrir dentro de poco...pues es muy duro aceptarlo. Lo gracioso es que no hemos pasado mucho tiempo juntas en estos ultimos meses debido a mis viajes frecuentes, pero no importa, aun asi me siento muy cercana a ella. Ha estado ahi conmigo en muchos momentos felices y tristisimos y se crea dentro de mi un gran vacio sabiendo que no estara a unos cuantos pasos de mi casa. Se que internet nos mantendra cerca siempre pero lo que esta claro es que la voy a echar de menos.

And of course she is not the only one leaving, several other very close friends will leave soon, Gabriela, Clara, Camila...I better be prepared for this year of farewells.

Y por supuesto no sera la unica que se vaya, otras buenas amigas lo haran pronto, Gabriela, Clara, Camila...sera mejor que me vaya preparando para este año de despedidas.

It´s a great acomplishment when you spend around a year in a project, doing it on and off and finally one day you finish it and give it to someboday that you know will appreciate all the work and the affection you made it with.

Es un gran triunfo cuando te pasas un año en un proyecto, haciendolo a ratos y finalmente un dia lo acabas y se lo da a una persona que sabes que va a saber apreciar el trabajo que has puesto en el y el cariño con el que lo hiciste.

I worked on a quilt all made by hand, hand stitched and hand quilted for my cousin and her baby. She always wanted me to show her how to do quilting over the phone or over the internet because we live in different continents. Maybe now that she has this piece in her home she will fell motivated to start quilting too...

Trabaje en una colcha toda hecha a mano, cosida a mano y luego acolchada a mano para mi prima y su bebe. Ella siempre quiso que le enseñara a hacer quilting por telefono o por internet porque vivimos en distintos continentes. Quizas ahora que ella tiene esta pieza en casa se sienta mas motivada a empezar una...

Cookie factory

Today my sister in law, her kids, mine and myself, we all headed after school to her house to make Martha Stewart cookies. They look really good and they don't have any misterious ingredient so we figured it would be fun to make. We decided to make some orange zest cookies, and then some lemon pistachio ones. After at least 3 hours of hard work, with little helpers involved, we made these delicious treats. They are very good! and it was so much fun to spend the afternoon like this. I just need my bed now!

Hoy mi cuñada, sus niños, el mio y yo, nos hemos ido despues del colegio a su casa a hacer pastitas de te de Martha Stewart. Tienen muy buena pinta y no tienen ningún ingrediente misterioso, asi que nos imaginamos que seria divertido hacerlas. Decidimos hacer algunas de naranja y otras de limón y pistachos. Después de por lo menos 3 horas de trabajo duro, con ayudantes incluidos, hemos hecho estos dulces deliciosos. ¡Están buenísimos! y fue muy divertido pasar la tarde así. ¡Ahora solo necesito mi cama!

My second quilt

When I started quilting in 2004, I made a baby quilt, very simple but cute, I think, for my niece. While I was attending to class I decided I needed a bigger challenge and I made a big one for my little sister. I am her godmother so I thought it's about time I did something special for her. This is the result, a quilt for a twin size bed that I think is pretty cheerful or at least I ope she feels that way.
Cuando empece a hacer edredones en 2004, hice uno de bebe, muy sencillo pero mono, creo yo, para mi sobrinita. Mientras iba a la clase decidi que a su vez necesitaba empezar otro proyecto mas grande e hice un edredon de cama individual para mi hermana pequeña. Soy su madrina asi que pense que ya era hora de que hiciera algo especial para ella. Este es el resultado, un edredon de cama individual bastante alegre o al menos espero que asi lo piense ella.
