Inventing recipes

This is my new thing. I feel very proud of myself for doing so, making new food, new flavors starting from different type of dishes into something that I had thought about just in my mind.
I have for a long time wanted to make a tomato bisque. I tried this at a restaurant some months ago and I loved it, it was like liquid pizza but better. One day I was making chiken in a rush and I grabbed a can of diced tomatoes, or so I thought. It was tomatoes but italian style. Well I don't know what spices they have but the thing is that the sauce for the chiken tasted like that tomato bisque! So there you have it, changed the recipe, no chiken this time, some cream to make it smooth and I had my own creation of tomato bisque! I am so happy.

Inventandome recetas. Esto es por lo que me ha dado ahora. Me siento muy orgullosa de hacerlo, de hacer una comida nueva a partir de otra diferente con una idea de lo que quiero en mente. Desde hace tiempo habia querido hacer una crema de tomate. La probe en un restaurante hace meses y me encanto, era como pizza pero liquida y mejor. Un dia estaba haciendo pollo a toda prisa y pille una lata de tomates en trocitos, o eso creia yo. Eran tomates pero a la italiana. Bueno, no se que especias llevaban pero la cosa es que la salsa salio con sabor a crema de tomate! Asi que ahi estaba, cambie la receta, sin pollo esta vez, algo de nata para hacerla mas suave y ahi estaba mi propia creacion de crema de tomate! que felicidad.

Today my second creation came along. I have that bread book that I just love looking at, and I decided to make a sweet bread today. Trying to use the ingredients I already have at home, I made a coconut and lemon cake. I had to change it some, make adjustment to the recipe and the result...well a short but good cake. I think I was too shy with the sugar, but eating this with ice cream must be really good because this is not too sweet. It has coconut flakes, sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder, sour cream, butter and lemon rind. Yummy.

Hoy hice mi segunda creacion. Estaba mirando ese libro de panes que me encanta, y decidi hacer un pan dulce hoy. Queria utilizar los ingredientes que ya tengo en casa, asi qeu hice un bizcocho de coco y limon. Tuve que cambiar la receta, ajustarla y el resultado...bueno un poco bajito pero un bizcocho rico. Creo que me pase poniendole poco azucar, pero comerse esto con heladito tiene que estar muy rico porque no es muy dulce. Tiene coco rayado, azucar, huevos, harina, levadura royal, crema acida, mantequilla y cascara de limon. Rico.

Inmobilized

Yesterday I was running around the house and I run into the leg of a chair. Fortunatelly nothing bad happened, then I did it again...and then for the third time...this time I messed up my toe. And you know how painful that is! Ohh! all my plans for the weekend were thrown out and we stayed home and I had a caretaker looking after me...then you realize how difficult life can be with such a small accident like this. At least today I feel that things are getting better and I think I am able to walk some today and hopefully I will be able to drive by tomorrow.

Ayer estaba corriendo por la casa y me pegue con una silla. Por suerte no paso nada, y me pegue de nuevo...y una tercera vez...y esta vez me fastidie el dedo del pie. Y ya sabeis lo doloroso que es eso! Ohhh! todos mis planes del fin de semana se me fueron al traste y nos quedamos en casa y tuve a un ninho cuidandome...ahi te das cuenta de lo dificil que puede ser la vida tras un pequenho accidente como este. Por lo menos hoy estoy mejor y creo que puedo caminar y espero poder conducir ya manhana.

My friend made me a nice wall hanging for my birthday. She is new to quilting so this was really impressive! Such a beautiful piece! I hung it in my wall next to my sewing corner and I love looking at it. It's an aplique of three flowers and makes me want to make a wall hanging for my bedroom that has empty walls. I have been thinking of it for years now and can't think of the right decoration for my bedroom, therefore it's sad and empty...I wish I were better at making decisions like this sometimes...but I finally have an idea on mind now the difficult part is how to make it into reality. Hours later...OK, I received a nice present today that will fill in the blank in that wall and my quilt will have to wait for my next home. Now I need to think how to complement this new beautiful piece of fabric that will decorate my wall.

Mi amiga me hizo un tapiz de pared para mi cumple. Ella acaba de empezar a hacer acolchados y la verdad es que es impresionante! Lo he colgado en mi pared, cerca de mi mesa de costura y me encanta mirarlo. Esta hecho de aplique con tres flores y me dan ganas de hacer uno para mi cuarto que tiene las paredes vacias. He estado pensando en esto desde hace anhos y no se me ocurre que hacer, como decorar la habitacion, asi que sigue triste y vacia...me gustaria ser mejor a la hora de tomar este tipo de decisiones...pero al final me ha llegado una idea a la cabeza y lo dificil ahora es pensar en como hacerla realidad. Horas despues...bueno, hoy me han regaldao algo que llenara ese hueco en i pared y el tapiz que tenia en mente tendra que esperar a mi proximo hogar. Ahora tengo que pensar en como complementar esta nueva tela que va a decorar mi cuarto.

He wants to make bags too!

The other day I went to the fabric store with Luca and he knows he has the power to choose fabrics too and make stuff with them! I have given him that power to let me shop...one time he bought this one fabric of Dora and now everytime we go there he says "Dora Dora" so I have to tell him that they don't sell there, which is true. Luckily for him, we found a transformers fabric that he liked and that was on sale. We bought a piece and took it home. As soon as we got home he got his little craft scissors out and he was ready to make a bag with it. We had talked about it at the store, "we will make a bag with this so you can carry your toys around". He wasn't going to waste any minute I guess, so I had to take over the start cutting not really knowing how was I going to make it. But it was OK, it came out kind of like a messenger bag, he liked it and now he carries toyes everywhere he goes.

El otro dia fui a la tienda de telas con Luca y el sabe que tiene el poder de elegir telas tambien y de hacer cosas con ellas! Le he dado ese poder para que me deje comprar...una vez compro una tela de Dora y ahora cada vez que vamos dice "Dora Dora" asi que tengo que decirle que no la venden ahi, lo cual es cierto. Por suerte para el, vendian otra que era de los transformers y que le gusto y ademas estaba de oferta. Compramos un pedazo y lo llevamos a casa. En cuanto llegamos a casa sacos sus tijeritas de manualidades y se preparo para empezar a cortarla para hacer una bolsa con ella. Habiamos hablado en la tienda de eso, "haremos una bolsa con ella para que puedas llevar tus juguetes por ahi". Creo que no iba a perder ni un minuto, asi que tuve que ponerme y empezar a cortar sin realmente saber como la iba a hacer. Pero salio bien, salio como una bolsa de mensajero, le gusto y ahora lleva sus juguetitos por donde va.

Crazy day with the kids

I had two of my friend's kids, aka Luca's friends over for a couple of hours today. I decided to bring out the custom's bin that I always forget to show Luca that it exsists and I had no idea they were going to have so much fun dressing up. It was a nice break from tv!

Tuve a los hijos de mis amigos, osea a los amiguitos de Luca por un par de horas. Decidi sacar la cesta de los disfraces que siempre se me olvida ensenhar a Luca que existe y no tenia ni idea de que se lo iban a pasar tan bien disfrazandose. Fue un buen descanso de ver tele!

Best bread ever

Remember I showed you that wonderful book about bread that my friends gave me? Well, yesterday I decided to make one, since I knew it would take more than 15 h do finish it, and it was the right thing to do cause this wasn't my best day on earth and that bread made me quite happy.

Os acordais de que os ensenhe ese libro tan maravilloso de panes que mis amigas me dieron? Bueno pues ayer decidi hacer uno, ya que sabia que me iba a llevar mas de 15 h acabarlo, y fue lo correcto porque hoy no es que fuera mi mejor dia en este planeta y ese pan me dio una alegria.

I used the bread machine to knead it. But I had to take it out, and handle it several times, until I shaped it the right way and it raised before being baked in the oven. Then I messed up. Of course, as I said today wasn't my day, so instead of putting the temperature in farenheid, I put it in celsium, meaning that the temperature I put was way below what it should have been...fortunatelly it wasn't the other way around...but when I realized, I turned the oven up for a while and it came out so delicious! I could have eating that whole thing at once! It was an olive oil bread and it reminded me of some salty pastries that we eat in my hometown in Spain.

Use la maquina de hacer pan para amasarlo. Pero tuve que sacarlo, y manipularlo con mis manos varias veces hasta que tenia la forma correcta y hasta que subio antes de meterlo al horno para que se hiciera. Luego la fastidie. Por supuesto, hoy no era mi dia, asi que en lugar de poner los grados en farenheir los puse en centigrados, asi que la temperatura que puse era mucho inferior a la que debia ser...menos mal que no fue al reves...pero cuando me di cuenta, subi el horno de temperatura un ratito y salio delicioso! Me podia haber comido ese pan de una sentada! Era un pan de aceite de oliva y me recordaba a las tortas de migas de mi ciudad en Espanha.

hats

I have been wanting to make summer hats since I learned how to make those for babies from my sister in law. The actual making it is not that hard, although it is hard to make sure they look good, no flaws, actually so far almost impossible. Now the challenge is to create the perfect hat pattern, that is NOT easy and it takes many hours of work. But I enjoy doing it so for the last couple fo days this is what I have been fiddling around with..hats, funny ones, until I was happy enough to make one...good for protecting your face and neck from the sun! that's for sure! Now have a laugh with my pictures...

He estado queriendo hacer gorritos de verano desde que aprendi a hacerlos para bebes de mi cunhada. Hacerlos no es tan complicad, aunque es bastante dificil que te que te queden bien, sin fallos, vamos, de momento es casi imposible. Ahora, lo que si que es dificil es crear el patron perfecto, nos es NADA facil y lleva muchas horas de trabajo. Pero disfruto haciendolo, asi que en los dos ultimos dias he estado jugando con esto...gorros, divertidos, hasta que estaba suficientemente satisfecha como para hacer uno...estan bien para protegerte la cara y el cuello del sol! eso esta claro! Ahora echaros unas risas con mis fotos...

Maybe one day they will come out good enough to sell, that is what I have in mind, but for now, I have to make them better and better.

Quizas algun dia saldran suficientemente bien como para venderlos, eso es lo que tengo en mente, pero por ahora, tengo que hacerlos mucho mejor.

Lazy lazy

I am lazy about downloading my picctures, uploading them to flicker, reducing the size so that it fits well in blogger and then posting...a long process that takes much of my preicous alone time...but nevertheless I like posting so I don't want to spend too many days leaving my ciberfriends and ciberfamily with no fresh news from polvoron de limon....

Que pereza bajarme las fotos, subirlas a flicker, reducirlas para que queden bien y luego escribir en el blog...un proceso demasiado largo que me quita mucho tiempo de mis valiosos momentos a solas...pero aun asi me gusta escribir aqui y no quiero pasar muchos dias sin hacerlo dejando a mis ciberamigos y ciberfamiliares sin noticias frescas desde polvoron de limon.

So we came back form a wonderful week of total spoilment for both of us, and now we have some readjusting going on. Some tantrums here and there, some potty accidents...but slowly getting into our routine. I have started baking some cakes, a new one from that one I promised I would bake from every Sunday...well I decided it was about time to keep my promise and I made an orange pound cake. It was not very sweet at all, it was good but I think it would have been better with lemon like the recipe called for, so that the flavor would be stronger. I will continue trying new recipes, I like doing so.

Asi que volvimos de una semana maravillosa de mimos para los dos, y ahora estamos reajustandonos a nuestra vida. Algunas rabietas aqui y alla, despistes haciendo pipi en la cama (Luca eh!)...pero poco a poco volviendo a nuestra rutina. He estado empezando a hacer bizcochos, uno nuevo de ese libro de cocina del que prometi hacer algo cada domingo...bueno he decidido que ya era hora de mantener mi promesa e hice un bizcocho de naranja. No salio muy dulce, estaba rico pero creo que hubiera sido mejor de limon como decia en la receta, porque el sabor hubiera sido mas fuerte. Continuare probando recetas, me encanta.

I also received a present form two nice friends, a book about breads! I mean it is like an enciclopedia, so many different breads of all contries, all flours, all styles, handmade or with machine...I can't wait to test it :)

Tambien me regalaron dos buenas amigas un libro sobre panes! Es como una enciclopedia de panes, tantos tipos diferentes de todos los paises, de todas las harinas, los estilos, hecho a mano o a maquina...tengo ganas de probarlo :)

Beutiful wildlife

During the days we have stayed out here at the beach we have encountered all kinds of wildlife animals. It has been a lot of fun going fishing at the seashore, with a little net, and getting those schooling fish, tiny things that we made pools in the sand for them. Luca has been learning some new words, like "crab", "ocean", "lightning" and new expressions like "hold it", "don't touch it", so getting out of our routine into a fun routine like this one is a wonderful way to learn some fresh new words! I think Luca is ready to get back to school on Monday!

Durante los dias que hemos estado en la playa nos hemos encontrado con todo tipo de animales. Ha sido muy divertido ir a pescar en la orilla del mar, con una red pequenha, y pescando pececillos, pequenhitos que poniamos en una piscinita que haciamos en la arena para ellos, Luca ha estado aprendiendo algunas palabras nuevas, como "cangrejo", "oceano", "rayo" y expresiones nuevas como "aguantalo", "no lo toques", asi que salir de nuestra rutina en otra mas divertida como esta es una manera muy buena de que aprenda nuevas palabras! Creo que Luca esta listo para volver al cole el lunes!

new bag

This time I made a cover for a gps that has been very useful to us lately. I never thought about getting such a thing and now I can't believe I lived without one for so long. I am so glad I rely on it and I hope it doesn't stop working in the middle of my trips otherwise...I'll be lost! This is how it looks, snug and with cushing inside!

Esta vez hice una funda para un gps que me ha sido muy util ultimamente. Nunca pense en conseguir una cosa asi y ahora no me puedo creer que vivi todo este tiempo sin el. Me encanta depender de el y espero que no se pare a miad de viaje porque sino...me perdere! Asi quedo, apretadito y con acolchado por dentro!

What's up with the alligators!

Here we are, at the beach, enjoying some freedom (me from Luca) and some good food better company and great beach, place, weather...mmm...it's going to go by fast, but for now we will enjoy the present and hold on to this moments of joy.
Yesterday I had the pleasure to reunite with this person I was telling you about in a previous post. It was wonderful, all those memories came back to me, and I got to catch up with the lives of so many others that I am not that close to keep in touch with but I'm always glad to know what happened with their lives. I felt good to be able to tell him all I felt and I thought about what I had learned in these past years and he suggested that I should write a book ha ha!, believe it or not I had thought about it. I have been more intested in writting lately and I definetely have many experiences and knowledge to share that might be useful to other people going through similar situations to mine. We will see, this is not the first person to suggest such a thing.

Aqui estamos, en la playa, disfrutando de algo de libertad (mia de Luca) y de buena comida, mejor companhia y de una gran playa, lugar, clima...mmm...va a pasar tan rapido, pero por aora disfrutaremos del presente y nos aferraremos a este momento de placer.
Ayer tuve el placer de reencontrarme con esta persona de la que os hable en otro post anterior. Fue una maravilla, todos esos recuerdos volvieron a mi, y pude ponerme al dia con la vida de tantos otros de los que no soy tan cercana pero que me alegra saber de ellos. Me senti bien pudierdole decir todo lo que sentia y lo que pienso que he aprendido en estos ultimos anhos y me sugirio que escribiera un libro jaja!, lo creais o no, ya lo habia pensado. He tenido mas ganasd ponerme a escribir ultimamente y definitivamente tengo muchas experiencias y conocimiento que compartir que puede ser util para otras personas que esten pasando por una situation similar a la mia. Ya veremos, no es la primera persona que me lo sugiere.

And here we are on top of some water with some really big looking and ugly alligators. Luca has been trying to fish them...and one of them got his lure in his mouth until we tricked him into opening his mouth and release it...Luca had a good experience to tell us all about!

Y aqui estamos encima de agua con unos caimanes muy grandes y feos. Luca ha estado intentando perscarlos...y uno de ellos atrapo su cebo en la boca y le tuvimos que enganhar para que la abriera de nuevo y la soltase...Luca ha tenido una experiencia para contarnos a todos!

Second of the season

For some reason I was obsessed with making skirts these past weeks. Well not only that, also with wearing them! I was able to finish skirt number 2 and even though as usual I am not totally satisfied with the final product, I like it and I am wearing it, which is always a good sign!

No se porque pero pero estaba obsesionadad con hacerme faldas en estas ultimas semanas. Bueno, no solo eso, ademas quiero ponerme faldas a toda hora!
acabe la falda numero dos de la temporada y aunque como siempre no estoy satisfecha del todo con ella, me gusta y me la estoy poniendo, lo cual siempre es buena senhal!





I have another skirt on my mind, a project in my head that I can't think of the way of making it reality so that it looks cool as well as shows the vision I have in mind and a few more bags and things that I have never tried before...will I accomplish any of this? we will see...

Tengo otra falda en mente, un proyecto en mi cabeza que no me imagino como hacerlo realidad para que quede chulo y a la vez sea lo que tengo en mente y unas cuantas bolsas mass y cosas que nunca he hecho antes...sere capaz de hacer algo de todo esto? ya veremos...
