Bag tutorial

Why do I do this tonight? Instead of watching a mindless movie or read a book? I don't know, I missed sewing and I missed being a little extra creative. I remembered seeing in a magazine how to make a bag out of a pillowcase. I got this fabric the other day, like so many days, and I didn't know what to do with it, but I just can't stand buying and not making anything. So I thought about that bag. I looked for it, and here we go, when you have millions of books, magazines and resources, unless you are very organized (the organized one at home is not yet 2 years old), of course you are not going to find it when you need it! So today I decided to just use my brain and figure out a bag tutorial that could be done out of a pillowcase. Of course, just like my paellas, there is always room for improvements; however, I think for an improvised project, this one is not bad at all. Here it goes:

¿Porqué hago esto esta noche? ¿En lugar de ver una peli ligerita o leer un libro? Nose, echaba de menos coser y echaba de menos ser un poco creative de más. Me acorde que ví en una revista como hacer una bolsa a partir de una funda de almohada. Encontre esta tela el otro día, como tantas otras veces, y no sabía que hacer con ella, pero no me gusta andar comprando y sin hacer nada. Aso que pensé en aquella bolsa. La busqué, y claro está, cuando tienes millones de libros y revistas y recursos, a menos que seas muy organzado (el unico organizado en mi casa aun no tiene 2 años), ¡por supuesto que no lo vas a encontrar cuando lo necesitas! Así que hoy decidí usar mi cerebro e inventarme una manera de hacer una bolsa que se pueda hacer a partir de una funda de almohada. Por supuesto, como mis paellas, siempre se puede mejorar; sin embargo, creo que para ser un trabajo improvisado, no esta mal del todo. Aquí va:

First I use a pillowcase as a model to get the right size. This is one of my favorites, Makimekko's pattern, I wouldn't want to tear it apart though.

Primero uso una funda de almohada como modelo para saber el tamano adecuado. Esta es una de mis favoritas, con disenho de Marimekko, pero no me gustaria cortarla.

While the fabric is still fold in half, I would cut it into two triangles like in the picture.

Mientras la tela esta doblada por la mitad, la corto en dos triangulos como en la foto

I fold twice the longer edge of each of the triangles and iron it before sewing it as shown in the picture. Then I put the triangles together, right sides together and sew the two parts by the edge shown at the top of the picture.

Doblo dos veces el borde mas largo de los triangulos y lo plancho antes de coserlo como se ve en la foto. Entonces pongo los triangulos juntos, con los lados del dibujo juntos y lo coso por el borde que se muertra en la parte de arriba de la foto.

In this bag, the other pieces were not cut, so I didn't need to sew them in that edge.

En esta bolsa, las otras dos piezas no se dividieron al principio, asi que no necesite coserlas en ese borde.

With the wrong sides out, I put one set of triangles inside the other as shown in this picture and sew them in the bottom (on the left side in this picture).

Con los lados de detro hcia fuera, pongo los dos triangulos uno dentro del otro como se muestra en esta foto y los cosi por la parte de abajo (a la izquierda en la foto).

I then sew the diagonals from the wrong sides and turned the bag around and sew the diagonals from the right sides.

Entonces cosi las diagonales desde el lado de dentro , volvi la bolsa y luego cosi las diagonales desde el lado de fuera.

With the wrong side out I took the base of the bag and flatted it and sew the two corners in order to create a base for the bag. Then I cut the remaining triangle and it looked like this.

Por el lado de dentro decidi como queria la base de ancha y cosi los triangulos de las esquinas para que se quedara con la forma de la base. Entonces corte el triangulo que sobraba como se ven en la foto.

Finally I turned it around, and made a knot to close the handle. There it is! New bag!

Al final le di la vuelta, y le hice un nudo a las asas. Ahi esta, mi bolsa nueva!
