Time seem to be flying. I was making a presentation today about how it is better earlier implantation of cochlear implants for best speech and language outcomes of children and then I remembered. Today it was the 6th year birthday of Luca's CI hearing. What an stressful and wonderful day. I can't believe we are so far from that day already, and that even though we are over the hill, the journey is not over yet. Once thing is for sure, Luca continues making me smile and making me proud, everyday I go to bed thinking how lucky I am to have such a precious child with me. He really makes me happy and give sense to my life.
And so many celebrations. In a few days, I will be having a birthday too. A big one! And since I am surrounded by people who are 15-17 years younger than me, this one is hitting me hard. And I wish I wasn't so loud, I think everybody around me knows I am going through this birthday/crisis, I can't hide it, but at the same time, I feel so happy to having one more birthday. Like my friend just told me, I will never be this young again. And I am still enjoying life very much, fighting hard, laughing hard, reminding people about sharing the road, helping people with all the audiology knowledge I am acquiring, making people laugh (I think my classmates might think I'm a bit of a clown) and showing the beauty of plants to those who have never been told. I am also as close as I can be to all of my family, far and close, and I am constantly making new friends while preserving my good old friends. How enriching this life can be, I have to say, I have lots more to do and enjoy and say and goof about.
Let the celebrations begin!
Welcome to my blog. I am enjoying experimenting with different forms of art and crafts and talking about my son and his journey through the hearing world. Please feel free to leave comments :) And thank you for visiting my blog!

Cochlear implants
My sister had to present a case of science gone bad or science excelling in a journal club that she belongs to. She did the science gone bad last year and she won in that category, I am not surprised, she is so smart and knows how to present her case. This year she decided to talk about the wonderful scientific invention of cochlear implants. She asked me to send her a video of Luca so he can explain about. I did it. She won again, of course. Here is the video.

something to think about
Sometimes is fun to get out of your comfort zone and do something you wouldn't do...like a road trip of a mom and her boy. That's what we're doing right now and it has been fun so far! The number of things I get to teach Luca being out of our routine are innumerable! It is also fun being with family and we are getting tons of that this Christmas! All our family here in the US! I of course took the opportunity to get sick while someone could take care of us, but I am feeling much better and ready to continue enjoying these holidays.
To all my blog friends, happy holidays, even though it's later, merry christmas, happy hanukkah, happy kwanza! or whatever it is that you are celebrating! It is nice to disconnect and enjoy the break. Eat special food and sing holiday songs! I wish I could sing better but I didn't get that talent from my mom :) I will have to continue singing in the shower to myself. Luca got some headphones for Christmas and he has been dancing and singing non stop, it is so amazing! how much he enjoys music regardless of what it sounds to him. Maybe one day, in the near future technology will get even better and he will appreciate it closet to the way we appreciate music, although in the other hand, he is happy, he enjoys it the way he hears it, so I guess that is good enough!
Vamos a ver a toda nuestra familia en US!
And here he is, enjoying return to sender, Elvis, one of his favorites.
