Jack-o-lanterns

Thanks again to so many special woman who come by to check on me once in a while. I feel really supported from all parts of the world everytime I see a new comment. And because I know soon I will be alone with Luca and time will be more of a problem to do things than now, I take the time I have now to post some more.

Gracias de nuevo a todas mujeres tan especiales que vienen a ver com estoy de vez en cuando. Me siento muy apoyada por todas partes del mundo cada vez que veo un comentario nuevo en el blog. Y porque como se que pronto estare sola con Luca y no tendre tanto tiempo para hacer cosas, ahora aprovecho para escribir un poco.

Today is Halloween. We made some intricate jack-o-lanterns and they looked really good. I was surprised, I thought it was harder! and the truth is that making a jack-o-lantern is time consuming, but once you get all the seeds out it's not so bad. The hardest part is to choose the design, as always. So here they go!

Hoy es Halloween. Hicimos unas calabazas y quedaron muy bien. Me sorprendi, pense que eran mas dificiles de hacer! y la verdad es que hacer una calabaza lleva tiempo, pero una vez que sacas todas las semillas no esta tan mal. Lo mas dificil es decidir el disenho, como siempre. Asi que ahi van!

One hundred

I was so close to write my 100 post and celebrate it like so many other crafty bloggers, but instead I have to say it is just a big milestone for me, just writting in this blog is a huge accomplishment. It's been already 2 months and one day since my husband's passing and although I don't have much energy to do things, I have to say, I keep on going. Regardless of being very sad inside, I have a positive spirit and I see the future with optimism. I want to thank to all those girls who left such wonderful messages in my last post. Each and every one of them were very comforting for me, and I still read them once in a while.

Estaba tan cerca de escribir mi post numero 100 y celebrarlo como muchas otras boggers, pero en cambio he de decir que es una gran meta para mi, solo escribir en este bog es una gran hazanha. Han pasado 2 meses y un dia desde que mi marido se mueriera y aunque no tengo mucha energia para hacer cosas, tengo que decir que sigo adelante. A parte de estar muy triste por dentro, tengo una actitud positiva y veo el futuro con optimismo. Quiero agradecer a todas las chicas que dejaron comentarios maravillosos en mi ultimo post. Cada uno de ellos me hicieron sentir mejor, y aun los leo de vez en cuando .

Now I am in New Mexico, where I was supposed to come before it all happened.
It's been good to relax and think things through, and on top of that, I have been doing crafts, and I know that is a good thing. Halloween is approaching and what a better excuse to sew than that! I have two nieces and my son to make costumes to.
This year they will be chefs. I have made a cute outfit for them, but let's see if I can get a picture of all of them without removing their hats and looking at the camera....I have also bought some beautiful fabrics, and I am also helping my mom to make a nice winter purse for her. She is supposed to make it herself but so far I have been in charge. I hope she takes over and she can be proud at the end of her "piece of art". But here it goes, the first of the three outfits with my beautiful niece.

Ahora estoy en Nuevo Mexico, donde se supone que venia antes de que todo ocurriera. Ha sido un buen momento para relajarme y pensar las cosas, y encima, he empezado a hacer manualidades, lo cual es algo bueno. Halloween se acerca y que mejor excusa para coser! Tengo dos sobrinas y un hijo a los que hacer disfraces. Este anho seran cocineros. He hecho un disfraz muy mono para ellos, pero a ver si consigo la foto de los tres sin que se quiten los sombreros y mirando a la camara....tambien he comprado unas telas preciosas, y estoy ayudando a mi mami a hacer un bolso bonito de invierno. Se supone que ela lo tiene que hacer sola pero de momento yo estoy al cargo del bolso. Espero que ella siga y acabe orgullosa de su "pieza de arte" al final. Pero aqui va el primero de los tres disfraces con mi sobrina tan guapa.

Mi amor

Mi life has changed forever. I was the happiest woman on earth and everything changed just 12 days ago. I don't know where I find the strength to write this today, but I guess talking about it relieves a little bit of my pain. My love was taken from me tragically in just 5.5 hours. And now I have my beautiful son to raise and make him happy without the best father I have ever seen in my life. How sad. My life has turned 360 degrees, so I have no idea where I am going now. I just have to keep on going.
I will probably take a break for now, but I will keep on reading. I'll be back.

Mi vida ha cambiado para siempre. Era la mujer mas feliz del mundo y todo cambio solo hace 12 dias. No se donde encuentro la fuerza de escribir esto hoy, pero creo que hablar de llos me ayuda a soportar mi pena. Alguien se llevo a mi amor tragicamente en solo 5.5 horas. Y ahora tengo que criar a mi hijo precioso y hacerle feliz sin el mejor padre que jamas conoci. Que tristeza. Mi vida ha cambiado 360 grados, asi que no se hacia donde voy. Solo tengo que seguir adelante. Probablemente me tomare un descanso, pero seguire leyendo. Volvere.

This is my finish what you have month

There is no doubt, all the promisses I made in June about finishing all my started projects were not for real...I actually started more new projects and I think I hardly finished anything. But I can say now that August is more like it. I have finished so many things this week that I am actually making room in my living room for people to sit in the couch!!! I guess my upcoming trip to New Mexico is making me finish things so that I can give them to my loved ones send things with them for my friends back in Spain.

No hay duda, todas las promesas que hice en Junio sobre acabar las cosa que habia empezadon no eran verdad...de hecho empece mas cosas nuevas y casi no acabe nada. Pero ahora puedo decir que Agosto es mas "ese mes". He acabado tantas cosas esta semana que de hecho estoy consiguiendo quitar cosas del sofa para que alguien se pueda sentar en el!!! Creo que mi viaje de la semana que viene a Nuevo MExico me esta obligando a acabar cosas para darselas a mis familiares o para que se las lleven a Espanha y las manden a mis amigas.

I made labels for the baby quilts, the pink and the blue. I have also finished the blue quilt, but pictures of that are yet to come. I decided to use capital letters mixed with lowercase because I saw it in an outfit of my son and I thought it looked cute.

Hice las dedicatorias de las colchas para bebes, de la rosa y la azul. Tambien he acabado la colcha de bebe azul, pero las fotos aun no las he hecho. He decidido usar mayusculas y minusculas mezcladas porque lo vi en un trajecito de mi bebe y me parecio muy gracioso.



I have also personalized some onesies and a little baby kimono. Since I almost never do anything for my own son, I decided he should be the first to have a personalized onesie. I used a white one he had and put his name on it, I love how it looks!

Y tambien he personalizado unas camisetitas de bebe y un kimonito. Como casi nunca hago nada para mi propio hijo, decidi que deberia empezar por hacerle una camiseta personalizada a el. Use una blanca que tenia y le he puesto su nombre, me encanta como ha quedado!

Do I have double personality or is it actually someone else?

There are so many things in common between my friend Gisele and I that some people think we are actually just one person. We both have the same graduate degree, both foreigners in the US, both at the same University, and the same village! almost the same address!!! Both stay home moms, crafters, quilters and bloggers! Of course this is what's visible, there are actually many more similarities. But we are not the same person, just very good friends and with many things in common and happy to live close to each other. I am saying all this because when we both won the Whiplash competition (what are the odds!) I guess it looked kind of fishy, so it took a while for us to get our prices. A lot of visits to the mail boxes, a couple of emails, infuriating thoughts, but finally we got them! From our sponsor, sew, Mama, sew! via Australia we got all these nice goodies:
Hay tantas cosas que tenemos en comun mi amiga Gisele y yo que algunas personas piensan que somos la misma persona. Las dos tenemos el mismo titulo de graduado, las dos somo estrangeras en EEUU, las dos estamos en la misma Universidad, y en la misma villa! casi la misma direccion!!! Las dos somos mamis que no trabajamos, nos gustan las manualidades, quilting y escribir y leer blogs! Y bueno esto es lo que se ve, de hecho hay muchas mas similitudes. Pero no somos la misma persona, solo muy buenas amigas y con muchas cosas en comun y felices de vivir tan cerca la una de la otra. Digo todo esto porque cuando las dos ganamos el concurso de Whiplash (que casualidad!) creo que parecia sospechoso, asi nuestros premios tardaron un poco en llegar. Little bags

I am going to see my sister and her daughters in a few days. I am very excited about it since it's once again a happy family reunion, the American representation.
I have been working on crafts like crazy these days because I would like to surprise them with something, just a little something for all the girls.
I made these two pouches, one for my niece, because she got a toy cash register from her new baby sister and she is busy buying and selling stuff all day. I thought a little purse to carry her money around would be just necessary. And since they are in New Mexico and they have been to the balloon fiesta in Albuquerque, I thought she would like this fabric.

Voy a ver a mi hermana y sus hijas en unos dias. Estoy encantada porque una vez mas vamos a tener una feliz reunion familiar, la representacion Americana. He estado trabajando en algunas cositas como loca estos dias porque me gustaria sorprenderlas con algo, un pequenho detalle para las chicas.
Hice dos bolsitos, uno para mi sobrina, porque a ella le regalo su hermanita al nacer una caja registradora y esta muy ocupada comprando y vendiendo cosas todo el dia. Pense que un bolsito para llevar su dinero por ahi seria necesario. Y como estan en Nuevo Mexico y han estado en la fiesta de los globos de Albuquerque, pense que le gustaria esta tela.




The other bag I am not saying who will it be for. It is just more grown up. I initially bought these fabrics to make one for myself, I love them! Love the brown-lime green combination, and love the two different patterns combined. I am happy with how it looks, I hope she likes it…

And I would like to share some pictures of our front garden. My husband is so good with plants! He makes sure it looks beautiful all year long. Pretty flowers and showy foliage.

Dr Davila, here is your purse

My friend just finished her PhD. She studies in a completely different area than me, working with nematodes, but we met in a plant anatomy class. Since she is not so familiar with plants we got together to study, and we became good friends. She is from Puerto Rico and works there at the University. She had to return to work last year even though she wasn't done with her studies. Now she is back, and she became Dr Davila. I am very happy for her.

Mi amiga acaba de conseguir su doctorado. Estudia algo completamente diferente de lo mio, trabaja con nematodos, pero nos conocimos en una clase de anatomia vegetal. Como ella no estaba tan familiarizada con plantas, nos juntamos a estudiar y nos hicimos buenas amigas. Ella es de Puerto Rico y trabaja alli en la Universidad. Tuvo que volver el anho pasado a trabajar aunque aun no habia acabado sus estudios. Ahora ha vuelto, y se ha convertido en la Dr Davila. Estoy muy contenta por ella.

I decided to make her a graduation/going away present. Along with a tissue holder I made previosly, I made her this purse with this pretty indian looking ribbon. I hope she likes it.

Decidi hacerle un regalo de graduacion/despedida. Junto con un bolsito para kleenex que ya hice, le he hecho este bolso con esta pasamaneria de estilo indio. Espero que le guste.

It's a wristlet world swap

Kelli at africankelli organized a fun swap with a touch of craftyness and a little bit of interesting stories behind. We had to create a wristlet for somebody that would represent the place where we come from, or in my case, where we live. Teniamos que crear una bolsita de mano para alguien que representara el lugar de donde provenimos, o en mi caso, de donde vivimos. New arrival, new goodbye

My sister had her baby finally! I am a happy aunt! I saw her over the webcam tonight and she is so beautiful!!! I am very excited because I will meet her pretty soon. I have some projects in mind for her so I better get back to crafting if I want to make it on time...
Mi hermana acaba de tener su bebe! Soy una tia feliz! La vi hace un ratito por la camara en internet y es preciosa!!!! Estoy emocionada porque la voy a conocer pronto. Tengo algunos proyectos en mente para ella asi que mas vale que me ponga manos a la obra o sino no me va a dar tiempo...

And I have a neighbour from China that I met through my good friend Hui, also from China. We live right across from each other but we only developed a relationship recently, when we started trying to comunicate in Chinese and using body language with her mom and dad. They are really good, they understand everything we say and we seem to understand them also. Her mom likes to knit and she made a nice sweater for my son in just a couple of days...so nice! then later I helped them buying a sewing machine since I had just bought one myself. Now they are leaving, moving out of Florida so I wanted to make something for them since they enjoy crafts and also they were so nice with all of us.

Y tengo una vecina de China que la conoci a traves de mi buena amiga Hui, tambien de China. Vivimos justo enfrente pero solo hemos empezado a ser amigos recientemente, cuando empezamos a intentar comunicarnos en Chino y usando lenguaje corporal con sus padres. Son muy majos, entienden todo lo que les decimos y parece que nosotros tambien les entendemos. A su madre le gusta tejer y ella le hizo un jersey muy bonito a mi hijo en solo un par de dias...que buena gente! entonces mas adelante les ayude a comprarse una maquina de coser ya que yo me acababa de comprar una. Ahora se van, se mudan de Florida y asi que les queria hacer algo ya que ellos disfrutan de cosas hechas a mano y a parte por haber sido tan majos con nosotros.

I made her potholder and a thing to hold a hot pan handle. I used the lefover fabric that I used for my purse, which were kitchen towels. I love this fabric!

Le hice un cacharro para agarrar cacerolas calientes y otro para el mango de la sarten caliente. Use lo que me quedaba de tela que antes habia usado para mi bolso, que eran toallas de cocina. Me encanta esta tela!

Whiplash: fashion surgery

This is my entry for this month's Whiplash competition: Wardrobe surgery.
I bought a pair of pants at the beginning of the summer thinking I was going to do something with them because they were too wide but I still bought them because they were a good deal and I liked the color. They have been sitting in my desk ever since and this month's competition was the perfect motivation to do something with them.

Esto es lo que presento para el concurso de Whiplash de este mes: wardrobe surgery (no se como traducirlo...operacion fondo de armario?? jeje). Compre unos pantalones al principio de verano pensando en hacer algo con ellos porque eran demasiado anchos pero aun asi los compre porque eran una ganaga y me gusto el color. HAn estado encima de mi escritorio desde entonces y el concurso de este mes de Whiplash ha sido la motivacion perfecta para hacer algo con ellos.

And this is after. Very simple changes, more in style, using the width of the pants I have made them so they are baggy but tight below the knees. The short version of the pants that we use for my hometown's moors and cristians outfits, especifically of the huestes del cadi moors pants. Now they feel very comfortable and I am planning to use them a lot.
Y esto es el despues. Muy simple el cambio, mas estilizados, aprovechando el ancho del pantalon los he hecho para que queden como bombachos. La version en corto de los pantalones que se usan en las fiestas de moros y cristianos de mi pueblo, en concreto los pantalones de moro de las huestes del cadi. Ahora estan muy comodos y los pienso usar mucho.

I found these stamps in the post office, aren't they great???

I almost don't want to send them, specially because most of the letters go to the insurance company, or bills. I might have to write some surprise letters, old style (by hand!) so I can send them to someone special.
Casi no los quiero usar, sobretodo porque la mayoria de las cartas que mando van a la companhia de seguros o a pagar deudas. Deberia escribir una carta sorpresa a alguien, de la manera tradicional (a mano!) para que alguien especial los reciba.

And in crafty matters, I decided to make some tissue holders, this time for the typical kleenex, with the long rectangular shape. I used a wonderful ribbon that Gisele brought me from Brazil some time ago.
Y en lo que respecta a cosas hechas a mano, he estado haciendo nuevos bolsitos para kleenex, los que son alargaditos y rectangulares (los de toda la vida). He usado un lazo muy bonito que me regalo Gisele de Brazil hace algun tiempo.

Learning from my mistakes

In 2.5 weeks I will be reunited with part of my family, my parents and my sister and her family to welcome my sister's new sweety pie. I can't believe this family is growing so fast. She will be grandchild # 6 for my parents. She will be greatgranchild # 17 for my grandparents (if they were living). And so spread all over the world, the last 3 children are Sweadish, Italian and Northamerican. What happened to us?? We like it mixed I guess. We have a half german,two half mexicans, three half Northamericans and one mexican soon to come, among my parent's grandchildren! And my little sister is quite fond of an italian boy, just to add some more international theme around my family. Anyway, enough about statistics and I get to the point of all this. Knowing that I will see my mom and dad, I have decided to fianlly continue working on the quilt I was making for her last year.

En 2.5 semanas me reunire con parte de mi familia, mis padres y mi hermana y su familia para dar la bienvenida a el bomboncito de mi hermana. No me puedo creer que esta familia este creciendo tan rapidamente. Ella sera el nieto numero 6 para mis padres. Y sera el bisnieto numero 17 para mis abuelos (si vivieran). Y tan esparcidos por todo el mundo, los tres ultimos ninhos son Sueco, Italiana y Estadounidense. Que nos ha pasado??? Nos gusta la mexcla supongo. Tenemos una medio alemana, dos medio mexicanos, tres medio estadounidenses y uno mexicano que llegara pronto, todos estos son los nietos de mis padres!!! Y mi hermanita esta contenta con un chico italiano, para anhadir un toque mas internacional a la familia. Buesno, basta ya de estadisticas y voy al grano. Como se que vere a mis padres, he decidido ponerme a continuar con la colcha que le estaba haceidno a mi madre el anho pasado.

However, it was hard to do and very stressful. But I found the best way to release my stress. I hand pieced this top of a quilt for my mom:

Pero aun asi era bastante estresante y dificil escribir. Pero encontre la mejor manera de relajarme. Hice la parte de arriba de una colcha para mi madre a mano:



I stopped there because the baby came soon after and then I haven't found the time, and I don't need more stress relief. But now that I will see her soon, I want to tell her that I have actually advanced some, since I am half way to finishing. I am working on the borders now, and I will stick to some thin ones because I don't want to make it too big. It will just be a quilt that goes on top of the bed and not hanging on the sides. She will use a white bed spread underneath.

Pare ahi porque el ninho llego pronto y desde entonces no he tenido tiempo, y ya no necesito relajarme del trabajo. Pero ahora la voy a ver pronto, y quiero decirle mama que tu colcha esta avanzando, ya que estoy a medio camino. Estoy trabajando en los bordes ahora, y voy a usar unos finitos porque no quiero que la colcha sea demasiado grande. Sera una colcha que cubrira la parte de arriba de la cama sin colgar por los lados. Ella podra otra colcha blanca debajo.

But now that I am more critical in quilting matters than I was a year ago, I realize there are so many parts of it that I would have done differently...but the fact is that I used two fabrics that are totally different, the white one is stiff and the red one is very soft. Big problem, because when trying to match hundreds of pieces and corners, the red one tends to strech more than the white, and of course, they never match. This is a big mistake on my part, but the truth is that when I saw those fabrics in the store I bought them without thinking what was I going to make with them. Then the quilt idea came along. Plus I just never think about those sorts of things...maybe I should be more careful the next time when selecting the materials and I will get better results. My only option at this point to make it look ok is to add a lot of quilting on top of it that will take care of the wrinkles, and the little gaps or missing corners here and there that are driving me crazy...

Pero ahora que soy mas critica en eso del quilting que hace un anho, me doy cuenta que hubiera hecho muchas cosas diferentes..pero la verdad es que use dos telas que son totalmente diferentes, la blanca es muy tiesa y la roja es muy suave. Un gran problema, porque cuando intento hacer que cientos de piezas coincidan y sus esquinas, la roja tiende a estirarse mas que la blanca, y claro, nunca coinciden. Esto fue un gran fallo por mi parte, pero la verdad es que cuando vi esas telas en la tienda las compre sin pensar lo que iba a hacer con ellas. Entonces pense en hacer la colcha. Ademas nunca pienso en esas cosas...quizas deberia prestar mas atencion la proxima vez para que me salgan mejor las cosas. Mi unica opcion ahora para que quede bien es hacer mucho acolchado por encima para que no se vean arrugas, y los huequitos que quedan por en medio o las esquinas que ahora me estan volviendo loca...

One done four to go

I got this in the mail today. Needless to say, I am soooo happy! All the things that Autum sent me are just amazing. And she gave me many ideas of cute things to make as presents! Ohhh more presents for my long list :) Thank you so much Autum! I love it!

Hoy me llego esto en el correo. No hace falta que lo diga, estoy mas contenta! Todas las cosas que Autum me mando son increibles. Y me ha dado muchas ideas de cosas bonitas que se pueden hacer como regalos! Ohhh mas regalos para mi larga lista :) Muchisimas gracias Autum! Me encanta!

I have also finished one of the 5 quilts I am concurrently working on. One of the baby quilts. I am happy with the final result, with lots of machine quilting and a new stitch that I hadn't even realized I had in my new machine. I just now need to attach a signature and send it, the hardest part (I procrastinate a lot to go to the post office for some reason).

Tambien he acabado una de las 5 colchas en las que estoy trabajando a la vez. Una de las colchas para bebe. Estoy contenta con el resultado final, con mucho quilting a maquina y con una nueva puntada que no sabia ni que tenia en mi maquina nueva. Solo me queda ponerle la firma por detras y mandarla, la parte mas dificil (no se porque pero me cuesta mucho ir a correos, siempre lo dejo para mas tarde).

The place where I live

I live in Florida, US, but unfortunatelly not so close to the beach. I was born and raised very close to the beach, and the Mediterranean Sea is something I really miss. If I only lived a bit closer to the coast... I can't really complain because in a 1.5-2 h drive I can see either the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico. But still that doesn't happen very often, only 3-4 times a year. At the most. So far I think I went to the beach for 2 days in New Year's, that's it.
During the years I spent here however, I became very close to this particular plant that grows in the beach, specifically on top of the dunes. This plant is named Sea Oats and I know a lot about them, I researched about them. Thanks to them I got to visit the beach a few times, just a few hard work beach days. Vivo en Florida, EEUU, pero por desgracia no muy cerca de la playa. Naci y creci al ladito de la playa, y el Mar Mediterraneo es algo que echo mucho de menos. Si viviera mas cerca de la costa estaria encantada...la verdad es que no me puedo quejar porque solo en 1.5-2 h estoy en el Oceano Atlantico o en el Golfo de Mexico. Pero aun asi eso no pasa muy a menudo, solo de 3 a 4 veces al anho. Lo maximo. Creo que este anho solo fui a pasar dos dias por Anho Nuevo, eso es todo.
Pero durante los anhos que he pasado aqui, me he familiaridazo mucho con esta planta en particular que crece en la playa, en concreto encima de las dunas. Estas plantas se llaman Sea Oats (Avenas de Mar) y se mucho de ellas, investigue sobre ellas. Gracias a ellas visite la playa varias veces, solo unas cuantos dias de duro trabajo en la playa. Estas fotos de aqui abajo son Sea Oats.

Inspired by all this I decided to make my wristlet to Lori representing a beach in Florida with Sea Oats. I embroidered the Seat Oats the best way I could remember them, in the dune. I also made sure I had an Ocean, birds and sand and lined it with a flowery fabric that I love. I hope she likes it.
Inspirada por todo esto decidi hacer mi bolsita de mano para Lori que representase una playa en Florida con Sea Oats. Borde los Sea Oats de la mejor manera como los recordaba, en la duna. Tambien me asegure de que tuviera un Oceano, pajaritos y arena y por dentro puse una tela de flores que me encanta. Espero que le guste.

Happy Monday

Today it's Monday and I am full of energy to start this week.
I got good news this morning too. My first publication in a scientific peer review journal has been accepted with minor revisions. That means I should be able to have it ready for publication pretty soon. I have been waiting for this since January, so it's a great relief.
Hoy es lunes y estoy llena de energia para empezar la semana. Tambien recibi buenas noticias esta manhana. Mi primera publicacion en una revista cientifica ha sido aceptada con revisiones minimas. Eso significa que deberia poder acabarlo y tenerlo publicado pronto. He esperado desde Enero a recibir esta noticia, asi que me siento muy aliviada.

Yesterday our quilting group got together again. We have some new members and the girls have been really active! Always new projects, good food and good chats. We will get a post soon at Minerva's circle, along with a good recipe of a merengue cake that Pilar prepare...mmmm...so good!.
Ayer nuestro grupo de quilting se junto de nuevo. Tenemos nuevos miembros y las chicas han estado muy activas! Siempre con proyectos nuevos, buena comida y buenas conversaciones. Pronto habra un post sobre eso en Minerva's circle, junto con una receta riquisima de un pastel de merengue que hizo Pilar....mmmm...que rico!

Updates...my digital camera is not broken, actually it never was! It was the new batteries that were failing, and a set of new batteries fixed the problem. I am happy about that, I felt really lost without a camera...ah! I won a price in Whiplash thanks to this cocktail purse! and so did my friend Gisele! That was a highlight of last week! And about my projects, I am almost done with my wristlet and also with this pink baby quilt. I hope to be more productive this week though.
Also one of our neighbours just went to Japan today, to Kyoto. I lend him my travel guide and told him about Kyoto, one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to. Oh! So many good memories came back to me! I spent 3 years in Japan and I got to travel 4 times to Kyoto-Osaka-Nara area. I have fond memories of all those trips, because the first time I went with the Japanese language class, the second time, with my cousin (mom of Noah) and I had to be the interpreter, and belive me, I wasn't so good in Japanese back then! Then I went again with my sister and her husband and then again with my parents. It was different in every ocasion, and special in all. I so want to go back there one day! And bring my baby to show him the country where I met his daddy. Maybe later on, when he can apreciate it better. And here is what I have hanging next to my computer/craft desk, a fabrics of Japanese women making quilts. Why wasn't I so crafty back when I was living in Japan??? I would have spent all my money in Japanese books and cute stuff! Oh well, I have to go back.
Novedades...mi camara digital no esta rota, nunca lo estuvo! Eran las pilas uqe puse queno funcionaban y cuando las cambie, se soluciono el problema. Estoy contenta, o se que haria sin mi camara...ah! Gane un premio en el consurso de Whiplash gracias a este bolsito! y tambien gano mi amiga Gisele! Eso fue estupendo! Y sobre mis proyectos, casi he acabado con la bolsita de mano y tambien con esta mantita rosa. Aun asi, espero ser mas productiva esta semana.
Tambien uno de mis vecinos se fue hoy a Japon, a Kyoto. Le preste mi guia de Japon y le conte sobre Kyoto, una de las ciudades mas bonitas que jamas he visitado. Oh! Tantas buenos recuerdos! Pase 3 anhos en Japon y llegue a viajar 4 veces al area de Kyoto-Osaka-Nara. Tengo muy buenos recuerdos de esos viajes, porque la primera vez fui con el grupo de la clase de Japones, la segunda vez, con mi prima (la mama de Noah) y tuve que ser la traductora, y creerme, no es que se me diera muy bien el Japones por aquel entonces! Entonces volvi a ir con mi hermana y su marido y luego de nuevo con mis padres. Fue diferente en cada ocasion, y especial en cada una. Tengo tantas ganas de volver algun dia! Y de llevar a mi ninho y ensenharle el pais donde conoci a su papa. Quizas mas adelante, cuando lo pueda apreciar mas. Y aqui os ensenho lo que tengo colgado en mi pared al lado de mi mesa de ordenador/manualidades, una tela con mujeres Japonesas haciendo quilts. Porque no estaba yo en lo de las manualidades cuando vivia en Japon??? Me hubiera gastado todo mi dinero en libros y en cosas chulas. Que le vamos a hacer, habra que volver.

Do I like it...or not?

I have finished one of the placemats I started a few weeks ago. It become really puffy and my quilting style is kind of crazy. I was just experimenting using a walking foot (didn't do it right the first time and was shaking the sewing machine like crazy, then I used the wrong stitch and broke my needle and I bent the automatic threader...mmmm....not good). Well the machine didn't break at least, it looks like it's fine now, the foot too (don't worry Gisele). Now, do I like how the placemat looks? I am not sure..not much at the beginning and now it's growing on me a bit more. Maybe tomorrow I will look at it with different eyes. I am still debating if I should do all of them the same way or if I should continue experimenting. I am going to think that through with my pillow tonight.
He acabado uno de los mantelitos individuales que empece hace unas semanas. Esta muy abultado y mi estilo de quiulting es un poco a lo loco. Estaba probando como salia con un pie para quilting (no lo hice bien y la maquina empezo a menearse como loca, entonces use la puntada equivocada y rompi la aguja y he doblado el enhebrador automatico...mmmm...muy mal). Bueno, por lo menos la maquina no se ha roto, y parece que el enhebrador funciona bien, el pie tambien (no te preocupes Gisele). Ahora, me gusta como ha quedado el mantelito? No se...no mucho al principio pero ya ha empezado a gustarme mas. Quizas manhana lo vea con otros ojos. Aun estoy pensando si deberia hacer todos los mantelitos iguales o si deberia seguir probando. Tengo que pensarlo con la almohada esta noche.

Esto es lo que hice el domingo. Y tambien he empezado a cortar las telas para mi intercambio de bolsito de mano! Ole! Estoy contenta con ese proyecto.

Meet Patricia

It seems that lately most of the people around me are finishing their PhD. Most of us came at the same time and after 4.5-5.5 years everybody seem to finish. I finished one month before my baby was born, that was my great motivation. It was perfect timing, I was so glad to have all my time to spend just with him instead of with my papers! Actually I still have a couple of papers to work on, but it's in a much more relaxed way.
Parece que ultimamente la mayoria de la gente que me rodea esta acabando su doctorado. La mayoria llegaron a la vez que yo y 4.5-5.5 anhos despues todo el mundo parece estar acabando. Yo acabe el mio un mes antes de que naciese mi bebe, fue mi gran motivacion. Fue el momento perfecto, estaba tan contenta de poder pasar cada minuto con mi ninho en lugar de con mis articulos! Bueno, aun tengo un par de articulos que mandar a publicar, pero de manera mucho mas relajada

One of my friends (the one getting the brown bag) came at the same time as me but she wasn't lucky at all with her advisors. It's amazing how some people want to make your life difficult and make you suffer for no clear reason. Science sometimes is like this, there are a lot of people with huge egoes and that think about graduate students as slaves. It's bad. I hope she can make it and finish soon. We will have a big party to celebrate it, she deserves it.
Una de mis amigas (a la que le regale el bolso marron) vino a la vez que yo pero ella no fue muy afortunada con sus profesores. Es increible como algunas personas quieren hacerte la vida dificil y hacerte sufrir por ninguna razon aparente. La ciencia a veces es asi, hay mucha gente egocentrica que piensan que estudiantes de dotorado/master son esclavos. Es terrible. Espero que lo consiga y acabe pronto. Tendremos una gran fiesta para celebrarlo, se lo merece.

My sister is also finishing but she is also having a baby soon. She changed projects several times and location so it's been hard, and now it seems that she is always working very hard trying to get most of this done before my I'm-sure-beautiful niece is born. She is very close to the end, hopefully we will be both phd stay-home moms. I'm looking forward to that so she can start using her sewing machine some more.
Mi hermana tambien esta acabando pero ademas esta a punto de tener un bebe. Cambio de proyecto varias veces y de lugar de trabajo asi que no ha sido facil, y ahora parece que siempre esta trabajando muy duro para acabar la mayoria antes de que mi estoy-segura-que-guapisima sobrina nazca. Esta muy cerca del final, asi que espero que pronto las dos seamos doctoras-amas de casa. Tengo muchas ganas de que eso llegue para que empiece a usar mas su maquina de coser.

My husband is also in the same boat, now realizing that the deadlines are right around the corner. Let's see how this end of the year goes. Looking forward to Christmas in Spain.
Mi marido tambien esta en lo mismo, ahora dandose cuenta de que las fechas de entrega estan ahi mismo. A ver como acaba el anho. Estoy deseando que lleguen las Navidades en Espanha.

Bag # 3, more stuffies to make and camera crisis

Ok, the title of this post tells it all. I have finished my bag # 3 following the tutorial by tiny happy. Super easy and beautiful results. This one is for my friend who loved my bag when she saw it. The problem I have with this bag is that I bought a denim type fabric for the lining and even though it looks pretty good, my fingers were turning blue as I was assembling...agggrrrr!!! I am not sure if it's going to make everything blue! Should I wash it or put it in water with vinergar to fix the colors?? I am just afraid that the brown part (made also with kitchen towels) will get messed up...anyways, I hope she likes it...I made a pocket for the cell phone too.
Ok, el titulo de este post lo dice todo. He acabado el bolso numero 3 siguiendo el tutorial de tiny happy. Muy facil y resulta muy bonita. Esta es para una amiga a quien le encanto mi bolso cuando lo vio. El problema que tengo con este bolso es que compre una tela vaquera para la parte de detro y aunque resulta bastante bonita, mis dedos se volvieron azules mientras la montaba....aaaggggrrrr!!! No estoy segura de si va a tenhir todo de azul! Deberia lavarla o ponerla en agua con vinagre para fijar los colores?? Lo unico es que tengo miedo de que la parte marron (que son toallas de cocina) se estropeen...de todos modos espero que le guste...hice un bolsillo para el mobil tambien.

And the bad news are that my digital camera is not working anymore, it shows like its working and when you are getting ready to take a picture it says no battery and it goes off...even with new batteries....so I had to take these not so nice pictures with my camcorder.
Y las malas noticias son que mi camara digital no funciona ya, parece que esta funcionando y cuando te dispones a tomar una foto parece que no tiene pilas y se apaga...aunque tenga pilas nuevas....asi que he tenido que hacer estas fotos que no estan muy bien con mi videocamara.

Welcome to the world, Noah

My little nefew Noah (not Nils as I thought!!!) was born today in Sweden. I am so happy! We didn't even know that it was going to be a boy although that's what I thought. We are very excited about his arrival and looking forward to see his pictures with his parents.
And this is just a corner of what's going all the way to Sweden, one of these days. When I finish it...

Mi sobrinito Noah (no Nils como pense antes!!!) nacio hoy en Suecia. Estoy mas contenta! No sabiamos lo que iba a ser, aunque yo ya me imaginaba que iba a ser ninho. Estamos muy emocionados por su llegada y tenemos muchas ganas de ver sus fotos con sus padres.
Y esta es la esquina de lo que les va a llegar a Suecia, uno de estos dias. Cuando lo acabe...

My friend also had her baby Julia!! What a surprise! These babies came earlier! I better get back to finishing her quilt...I am double super excited today, so many good news!
